If there is one thing that my mom, my sister, and I learned from our mothers we love is that we value all of our time. We are all so busy that we can’t afford to stop and think about being patient. We love to have time to just be. I think that one of my favorite ways to be is by doing. We think that time is money, but it isn't.
When I was in college, I had a job that I was pretty good at for a while, but then the job dried up and I was unable to find something else. After that happened, I was unable to get a job that I was so good at, so I started working as a temp for a company that used to make baby diapers. I was able to make pretty decent money for a while, but then everything was taken away from me.
Not long after my temporary gig ended, the company changed its name to Babyboo.
They were still very good at diaper making, but they decided to change the diaper making to diaper making. When I went to apply for a permanent job, I was told that Babyboo was going to hire me if they liked my resume. I was so excited, I said, “I want to be a Babyboo someday!” and got hired.
I’m an engineer by trade. I’m really good at systems integration. I’ve programmed a lot of systems; software and everything. And I like to think that I’m pretty good at systems integration because I make things work together pretty well. The problem is that Babyboo is a startup; they don’t need engineers. The problem was that Babyboo was a startup so their people didn’t use systems.
That's right. A startup is a startup by choice. We're not talking about a startup that hires you to code a new website and then leaves you in the dark. A startup is a startup by choice, and it's pretty clear that their people aren't into systems.
They are. And they are not.
A startup is by definition a business with a mission.
It's a business with a mission because they want to solve a problem you can see and they want to build a product that solves that problem. This means that if the product is a website with a cool theme and cool graphics, the whole point is to make money and not to build a product.
The problem is, most startups don't want money. They want to create a product that makes money. This is what we want to do with this website. We want to create the best website on the planet. Period. We don't want to be a business, we want to be a business.
The problem with most startups is that they are not built to be a business. They are built to create a product, and if it doesn't make money, they're not going to do anything else. But that's exactly how most startups fail. They need money.
